The King’s Own Restaurant is located in Republic Street, the main thoroughfare of the City’s capital Valletta. Situated on the ground floor at street level within the premises of the King’s Own Band Club, this fully fledged independent restaurant opened three years ago under the aegis of one of the most successful restauranteur families in Malta, with Head Chef Roberta at the kitchen helm. In 1901 it became known as the King’s Own Band Club after receiving Royal consent. Smart, clean-cut décor with blue and white table settings arranged on natural parquet provide a relaxed atmosphere for both lunch and dinner. Al fresco dining is available evenings only in summer on the outside pedestrian pavement area. Service is prompt and courteous.
The main menu is extensive and offers one of the most comprehensive selections of Mediterranean and traditional Maltese cuisine with a choice of starters including mixed shellfish, fried Maltese goat’s cheese, bruschetta, Maltese fish soup such as well as a vast selection of pasta dishes including spaghetti with frutti di mare or gnocchi. For mains choose tantalising portions from freshly caught seasonal fish and seafood including grilled swordfish, tuna steak, octopus in garlic, sea bass, lobster prawns. Fine meat dishes include lamb shank, duck breast, beef fillet and rib eye. The ‘Specials’ menu changes every fortnight and includes traditional fried rabbit or ‘lampuki’ pancakes when in season. For dessert try the traditional Maltese imqaret, chocolate mousse or baked cassatella.
