Bistro 516 is a genuine family-run restaurant on the Valletta Waterfront, commanding excellent views of the port and the splendid yachts, and also offering two vast floors of comfortable spacious indoor seating under ancient vaulted stone ceilings. As you enter, you will see a lounge area complete with deep blue sofas, a floor to ceiling wooden display racks of wines, a fully stocked bar, a salad bar and a completely open sparkling kitchen with two busy chefs bustling about – one being a completely dedicated Gluten-Free chef. Having a member of the family who is gluten-intolerant prompted the owners to specialise in this area.
Two menus are available: an extensive completely gluten-free menu which comprises starters, mains, salads, desserts, children’s menu, beers and cocktails and a regular menu. Until 12 noon they also do a killer English breakfast with extra toppings. Lunch and evening diners may start with a wonderful selection of bruschetta or the sizzling fresh mushrooms in garlic. For mains try the spaghetti carbonara or marinara with fresh mixed seafood, the chicken curry or paella with fresh seafood, turkey sausage, chicken, mushrooms, peppers, garlic and onions. Rib-eye and sirloin steaks are also available with accompanying sauces and sides. Top it all off with a delectable cake of the day or a scoop of ice-cream.
