If the Bay Square area makes you think of pizza and burger bars, ‘Venus Restaurant’ will force you to re-evaluate your preconceptions! Open for dinner only (and Sunday lunch in low season), Venus is a chic space, tastefully decorated in grey and white. It has both an indoor area and a semi-covered outside space, where tasteful music levels and warm lighting create a surprisingly intimate atmosphere. The owners, the very experienced Curmi family, are always onsite, and oversee attentive yet friendly table service. It all combines to make Venus a great option for a table for two.
The menu focuses on a small number of meat and fish dishes with additional specials of the day, and is complimented by a good selection of local wines as well as European and New World options. All ingredients from the meat to the edible flowers are locally sourced, and the deserts are homemade. With the knowledgeable owners front of house, it’s possible to ask to see the meat or fish options before they are cooked, making it a great way to learn about and try new cuts. European classic dishes such as different steak options, seafood platters and beef cheek pasta, are given an individual twist by Chef Justin Schieda, and all arrive beautifully plated. Look out for his signature Steak Tartare.
