By the sea dining, bordering the tiny stretch of sandy beach “bathed by the setting sun”, “charming bay views from a hidden corner of Xlendi”, “a sheltered restaurant visible only from the water”. These descriptions could easily be mistaken for a film location. In reality they describe Ta’ Karolina, named after a local lady, this establishment serving Mediterranean cuisine is regularly frequented by local clientele.
The menu is varied and covers a wide range of popular dishes including soups, pasta, meat and fish and pizza as well as daily specials. There are a selection of sharing platters for two. Start with the pan fried medium prawns, flamed in cognac with fresh herbs and served with rocket leaves and tomatoes or fried breaded brie wrapped in parma ham with cold fig sauce. Follow this up with fresh homemade pasta like rigatoni with calamari and prawns, spinach leaves and cream. The French rack of pork with mushroom, fig, sundried tomatoes and cheddar cheese crust, finished with a port sauce as well as fine cuts of black angus rib eye served with chips and salad or vegetables of the day and potatoes.
