Haywharf is located on the water’s edge within the Valletta Bastions. Blending the old with the new, it’s enclosed within large plated glass windows allowing for panoramic views across the harbour to Manoel Island and Sliema. The wood-panelled walls, solid wood tables and chairs set on natural, unpolished wooden floorboards together with mellow lighting, provide a warm atmosphere. The ‘Clubhouse Terrace’ has an indoor lounge and bar area with glass doors opening out onto a spectacular, open-air terrace with its own separate bar, additional comfortable lounge seating, and stand heaters in winter. They serve a selection of fine spirits and fabulous cocktails with a menu of delicious snacks including platters, nachos and gourmet burgers.
The à la carte menu includes delightful starter dishes including fritto misto with flour-dusted deep-fried baby calamari, prawns, white bait and mussel meat served with their special tartare sauce, or three types of dips served with garlic bread, water biscuits and grissini. Chicken risotto made with with sautéed chicken breast and spring onions, zucchini, asparagus, sundried tomatoes with fresh garden herbs and Grana shavings comes as either starter or entree. Mains include pan-seared duck breast with a warm, sweet red cabbage and air-dried apricots, finished with a passion fruit reduction. There’s also veal and beef rib-eye with a fine selection of sauces. Mains are served with seasonal vegetables or salad and roasted potatoes or fries.
