On the gorgeous Senglea promenade, AquaBlu has recently been refurbished by new owners Brenda and Matteo into a delightful haven. Chef Patron Matteo has trained and worked with some of Malta’s top chefs and his attention to detail and presentation of dishes is both Instagram-worthy and delightfully tasty. Al fresco dining regales you with impressive views of the Grand Harbour Marina with its superyachts. Plenty of tables can accommodate groups of all sizes. Staff are courteous, efficient and professional.
The menu specialises in locally-sourced fresh fish and seafood. An amuse bouche of aubergine and cream cheese with a zesty citrus crust is a great palate primer. The freshly-prepared AquaBlu antipasto features five types of fish and is ideal for two persons to share—plump mussels in a tomato sauce, crusty bread with fresh marinated sardines, and homemade caponata are included. The fresh pasta tossed with seafood in perfumed prawn bisque is a hearty portion. Seabass al cartoccio, grilled swordfish, pan fried grey meagre are other options, and the “misto di pesce” is a must-have. The AquaBlu burger with hand-cut fries is also a great choice. A thoughtful selection of reasonably-priced wines complement any dish. Desserts are homemade, and the warm chocolate brownie is a great contrast to the flavours of the sea.
