The Taproom is renowned for its ‘high table’ which serves both as a talkers table and a dining table. Sit together with others or book it exclusively for your group. The high table is at the rear with additional tables for two as well as fairground, waltzer-like leatherette seating. There is a mosaic of framed images upon the wall, and a bar that celebrates into the night. Taproom is a restaurant that folds away to a bar when the kitchen closes, after which the cocktails continue till 1.00am – which explains the flamboyance of the selection. The classics are Whiskey Sour and Midori Sour, and the specials, Passion Crush, Tap Mai Tai, as well as Apple and Tap Tini. Prosecco cocktails add to the collective fizz. Va Va Taproom!
Their well curated menu offers intelligent and well-cooked dishes. To get you started, try their seabass ceviche, beef tartar or a bowl of mussels (mussels tossed in garlic, butter and champagne cream). Vegetarians will appreciate the asparagus and fennel risotto topped with crisp parmesan, or the tagliatelle with wild mushrooms which is hearty and filling. The French style steak frites (fresh black angus fillet with French fries) is simple yet elegant. From the sea, choose the pan-fried meagre or the pan-seared lemon pepper crusted tuna fillet served with warm spinach. The chocolate fondant with fresh ice-cream is a must to share…or not.
